  • Only?

So I was on the datingish homepage and you know how they have those little ads for online dating stuff in the corner? Well, they had this advertisement for some specifically interracial dating site and the advertisement said, "Black women who only date white men." This topic has actually been pretty hot in my life recently for various reasons, so the advertisement jumped off the page at me.

What's with the "only"? Why would you "only" date people of a specific race? I understand only dating people of a specific religion, because that has to do with your core beliefs and values and the way you want to raise your children, etc--stuff that's really important to have straightened out when you are looking to settle down. But "only" dating people of a specific race? What's up with that?

And here's the other thing--"only" dating people of a race that isn't yours? What on earth did "your people" do to you? I was telling a friend a few weeks ago that the whole black-men-dating-white-women thing has always been a sore spot in the black female community, but I really can't complain if they are dating because they truly care about each other. I really hate it though, when black men date white women because they don't like black women. What did we do to you that was so bad you turned your back on an entire race of women? I don't get it. I personally have a strong preference for black men (hey, brown skin is sexy. what can I say?), but not because I refuse to date men of other races. I've only dated one non-black man in my life (he was Mexican), but I'd be open to doing it again, especially now that I've gotten to know a lot more Hispanic men.

But back to my original question, why would you "only" date people of one specific race? And why would that race be different from your own? Seems slightly self-hating, doesn't it?

    whoo first comment!
that's just silly...i think you should date whoever you like and not limit to only one race.
I find that rude to exclude a whole race too. Its like saying all americans are rude. I can promise you there are some who are very rude, but there are others who are not. We shouldn't put generalizations on people, that's it.

    but that's my two cents!
